It’s Just Avoidance Dressed Up as Wisdom
There are those on this planet that seek enlightenment.
Sometimes it’s the desire to find meaning in life. Other times, it’s a manifestation of the ego to allow you to feel superior to others.
For others, it’s the seeking of divinity in their life.
Many people choose different paths to it, but few realize that really, it’s just everyone’s inner desire for self-actualization.
The truth is, enlightenment isn’t real. In our thousands of years of history, there has never been a person that’s been enlightened.
Like most beliefs, it’s something people seek “out there.” It’s a truth they try to find about life, but there is no truth to this life, at least nothing that we can comprehend.
Your only choice is to walk the path you were put on through your set of circumstances, and always work to make the best of them.
If we observe those that seek enlightenment, those that disappear to monasteries, away from society, secluding themselves from basic worldly pleasures, in some cases to the extremes of never having sex or a life partner, these individuals are really seeking detachment from all the things that make us human, in the hopes that it makes them something more. And instead, they become something less.
When we get away from our humanity, from the struggle of playing the balance between being part monkey and conscious spirit, we remove the essence of the human experience. That little struggle we face daily, that little tug and pull, is what helps us grow.
Most people that seek enlightenment are really seeking to remove all sources of stress from their life through detachment. While that sounds challenging, it’s the easy way out.
There is no glory in not having something you can’t have, or that is not in your presence.
Saying no to sex is easy when you’re not surrounded by attractive people.
Sitting for hours in meditation is easy when you have no one distracting you, and nothing else to do but clean and do pushups in a remote temple.
And when you do all of that, the meditation, the getting fit, the becoming smart and wise, what’s the point if you can’t help your fellow man? What’s the point if you can’t love or be loved?
You’re running away from the very thing you were put here for: the human experience.
The true test of man comes from willpower, from self-control, from conquering themselves in order to get what their heart desires, then learning that their desire wasn’t what they wanted at all, and starting that whole process over.
That takes bravery. That takes you down a path of accepting the reality of life, which, in the end, is the only true enlightenment.
The same enlightenment that can be achieved from wanting nothing at all… can be achieved from having everything you want.
